NEW JERSEY RADIO PERSONALITIES WIN STATE'S TOP AWARD
Governor Christine Todd Whitman recently awarded her tourism awards at the State's Annual
Governor's Conference on Tourism held at the Cherry Hill Hilton, honoring this year's "Stars of the
Tourism Industry in New Jersey. Taking top honors for 2000 were radio personalities Dick and
Deborah Miller of Freehold, The Millers received five nominatons in two categories. Be most
prestigious award is the Governor's Pinnacle Award for Excellence in promoting New Jersey tourism.
Three out of the six tourism regions in New Jersey nominated the Millers for the top award; a first in the
history of the State for so many nominations.
The final award of the evening at the Governor's Conference on Tourism Awards dinner was the
award that everyone strives for -- The Pinnacle Award for Excellence. As each award was presented to
the winners, the tension mounted. When Dick and Deborah Millers' names were announced the crowd
cheered and screamed their approval! All of the attendees were informed that Dick Miller's New
Jersey RADIO Magazine gives over one million dollars annually in "free radio air time" to non-profit
organizations to promote -- in advance -- public events on the Millers' radio network of 10 New Jersey
radio stations.
The Millers are New Jersey natives. Dick was born in Newark and was raised in Maplewood,
graduating from Columbia High School. Deborah spent her childhood in Ridgewood and graduated
from Rtdgewood High School. The Millers lived in Short Hills for many years and now reside in
Freehold.
Dick and his family spent their summers vacationing at White Meadow Lake, Rockaway
Township. In his teens Dick hiked and biked throughout the northwest region of New Jersey and
canoed down the Delaware River. Deborah and her family enjoyed the Jersey shore, renting houses In
Lavallette and Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, as well as vacationing in Cape May at various
Victorian bed & breakfasts.
Dick and Deborah Miller started broadcasting Dick Miller's New Jersey RADIO Magazine on
WHWH in Princeton on October 25, 1997. As their reputation for outstanding broadcasting grew,
more radio stations were added statewide, now totaling 10 and still growing.
Dick Mtller's New Jersey RADIO Magazine provides a fast paced entertaining one-hour radio-
magazine format of events taking place statewide. Residents and visitors listen to find out What to Do
and Where to Go each week in New Jersey. If you're looking to have more fun In New Jersey the
Millers will tell you about fairs and festivals, live theatre, concerts, discovering weekend getaways,
antique shows, museums, historical sites, shore activities, outdoor fun, camping, boating, restaurants,
Atlantic City entertainment and celebrity Interviews with stars appearing in the Garden State. Dick
Miller's concept is to unite the State and to encourage residents to discover the "Jewels of New Jersey,"
thus he created his slogan: "Bringing New Jersey Closer Together".
New Jerseyeans who have vacationed in the Caribbean over the past 15 years are familiar with
'The Dick Miller Show" on the islands of St. Maarten / St. Martin (and the 20 nearby Eastern
Caribbean islands), and Aruba. "The Dick Miller Show Aruba" just celebrated its 10th Anniversary of
broadcasting in English, welcoming tourists to Aruba, providing a friendly American voice on the radio
away from home, seven-nights-a-week.
In New Jersey, listeners can hear Dick Miller's New Jersey RADIO Magazine every weekend
in 18 of the 21 counties of New Jersey, broadcasting from Princeton, New Brunswick, Toms River/
Lakewood, Asbury Park, Atlantic City, Hammonton, Vineland, Newton, F1emington, and Teaneck.
The Millers' radio show can also be heard in portions of the bordering states of New York,
Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
Governor Whitman thanked Dick and Deborah Miller for their extraordinary efforts in promoting
New Jersey to New Jersey and the bordering states that hear New Jersey RADIO Magazine's
weekend broadcasts. Governor Whitman said: "Thank you for all that you do for New Jersey". Dick
says: "New Jersey has a great tourism product. We want to get the word out over the airwaves to
discover New Jersey's outstanding cultural events and attractions, and to encourage people to
experience our beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes, as well as the fabulous Jersey shore".
Dick Miller wants everyone to experience the diversity of the Garden State each week. Deborah
